Located in Henderson, Texas, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office serves nearly 40,000 residents of unincorporated Rusk County along with maintaining an outstanding professonial relationship and assists the cities of Henderson, Overton, New London, Kilgore, Tatum, Easton, and Mt. Enterprise when called upon. We are also proud to assist our neighboring counties of Gregg, Smith, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Panola, and Harrison when requested.

Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle
Sheriff Pirtle leads the law enforcement team of the Rusk County Sheriffs Office. Sheriff Pirtle has 34 years Law Enforcement experience and has worked in almost every capacity possible by a Texas Peace Officer. Sheriff Pirtle has managed divisions in Patrol, Communications, Civil, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Jail Operations, and Budget Preparation.
With 24 years of experience in Criminal Investigation, 14 of those as command and administration, Sheriff Pirtle has been recognized for his experience by other agencies. Due to this experience and recognition of such, Sheriff Pirtle has assisted other agencies in solving major crimes and departmental issues. With extensive training and experience in background investigations and internal affairs, Sheriff Pirtle has served on disciplinary boards for Kilgore Police Department and Rusk County Sheriffs Office.
In 1979, Sheriff Pirtle was awarded with Outstanding Public Official for Rusk County Sheriffs Office. In 1985, Sheriff Pirtle was Supervisor of the Year at Kilgore Police Department and in 1990 he was awarded by Kilgore Police Department for Dedication and Leadership. Rusk County Sheriffs Office named Sheriff Pirtle Officer of the Year in 1995 and in 2002 Sheriff Pirtle was honored with the Liberty Bell Award by the Rusk County Bar Association.
Sheriff Pirtle runs his department with the upmost respect, integrity, and dignity. Sheriff Pirtle and his employees make the citizens of Rusk County their highest priority. Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle is a leader and a family man. Sheriff Pirtle's wife, Dolly, served the community for 26 years at the Henderson Police Department, and retired as a detective. Sheriff Pirtle and wife Dolly have been blessed with three grown sons and nine beautiful grandchildren. Both Sheriff Pirtle and his wife Dolly are active members of the Sardis Baptist Church and are very involved in the church and the community.
